Odisha MP belonging to the district of Koraput, Jhina Hikaka, was released by the Maoists on Thursday about 500 kilometers away from the capital city of the state after being kept at an unknown place for 22 days. The release of Odisha MP marked an end to the twin abductions in the eastern state of India.

Hikaka made it to the venue around 10 30 am on Thursday where his wife Kaushalya was awaiting him with his lawyer and a set of media members near the Narayanpatna block of Balipeta village, which has long remained the hiding place for several Maoists in the past. Hikaka has been brought to safety due to the efforts of the government which agreed to come to a mutual conclusion with the abductors and ensured that their members returned home safely. The government has agreed on releasing a total of 27 prisoners which include 4 criminals for the release Paolo (the other abduction taking place in the state), 8 rebels, and others. The released members include four Chasi Muliya Adivaasi Sangh members and wife of Panda, Shubhashree.

Speaking to the media team present at the time he met his wife and the lawyer he said, “The Maoists treated me well” and refrained from commenting on the announcement of the party that he will quit as the minister and live the life of a normal citizen from now.
