Brigadier General Anthony Kpandu was arrested by state authorities in Sersibu village in Western Yambio, at the border with the Central Africa Republic.
He was reportedly arrested for trying to cross the border to the Central Africa Republic.
Kpandu was arrested alongside a Ugandan national, four Ambororo men, two women and two children.
Brigadier Kpandu claimed that he has obtained permission from the SPLM state chairperson Lieutenant General Mark Nyipuoch Ubuong, allowing him to travel to Tombura County in Western Equatoria State.
The party accepted the claims but denied knowledge that he was travelling outside the country.
Security agencies have claimed that Brigadier Kpandu was stopped in his attempts to establish a rebellion following recurrent wrangles within the SPLM state secretariat.
