Wesley Bunker, 47, has been identified as the victim of a fatal assault on Sunday, June 17, 2012, in the area of 106A Avenue and 96 Street.

Bunker died in hospital on Tuesday, June 19. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday morning.

The charge against Courtney Alex McDonald29, has been upgraded from aggravated assault to manslaughter. (Please note, the accused is 29, not 30 as previously reported.)

Background:

Late Sunday morning, June 17, 2012, Downtown officers were informed of a critically injured male who had been treated and transported to hospital by EMS earlier in the day.

Given the severity of his injuries, homicide detectives were called in to investigate the incident.

Courtney Alex McDonald, 29, was initially charged with aggravated assault. Since that time, the victim died in hospital. Detectives worked with the Crown to upgrade the charge to manslaughter.
