The Broad Stage at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center (Santa Monica, CA)
Pulitzer Prize-nominated author Mark Salzman (Iron and Silk, The Soloist) joins LACO and solo cellist Andrew Shulman to kick off their season-long Westside Connections series, a cool combo of literature and live music. An accomplished cellist as well, Salzman narrates a performance piece recalling how Bach’s cello suite helped him break through a serious struggle with writer’s block. The concert also features pianist Bernadene Blaha and violinist Tereza Stanislav for the finale, Mozart’s Piano Trio No. 4 in E major. Curator and concertmaster Margaret Batjer hosts this innovative program, which connects symphonies and stories.
