U.K. Prime Minister, David CameronPrime Minister, David Cameron has announced at the CBI conference to scrap equality impact assessments used to gauge how policies affect different social groups as part of a drive to get rid of the “bureaucratic rubbish” that gets in the way of British business to boost economic growth.

Mr. Cameron told business leaders that the public’s right to challenge controversial planning decisions will be dramatically reduced, saying: “We urgently need to get a grip on this.”

The prime minister outlined that new government measures needed to be “tough, radical and fast” to help British business compete in the global race as “in this global race you are quick or you’re dead”.

Mr. Cameron told that “massive steps” had already been taken towards a faster government however, further measures were required because government “can still be far too slow at getting stuff done.”

“Consultations, impact assessments, audits, reviews, stakeholder management, securing professional buy-in, complying with EU procurement rules, assessing sector feedback … this is not how we became one of the most powerful, prosperous nations on Earth. It’s not how you get things done. As someone once said, if Christopher Columbus had an advisory committee he would probably still be stuck in the dock. So I am determined to change this.”

Cameron has also announced a clamp down on judicial reviews of government decisions, which he said had almost tripled over a decade. He claimed many of them were “completely pointless” and had delayed major projects. He told that the government will minimize time and halve the number of possible appeals to two.

The prime minister told to see economic growth as its country’s primary objective, drawing comparisons with the World War II.

“When this country was at war in the 40s, Whitehall underwent a revolution, Normal rules were circumvented. Convention was thrown out. As one historian put it, everything was thrown at the overriding purpose of beating Hitler.”

He has told to put everything at stake to emerge as winners in this global race today.
