USA: Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart…
The extremely controversial plans of the Harper government to purchase scandalous F-35 fighter is highly anticipated to encounter yet another speed bump in its implementation as a series of profound spending cuts are about to be executed in the United States. While attending a breakfast event at the Economic Club of Canada, MacKay, alleged that the cuts, labeled as sequestration, are anticipated to affect “specific military procurements” in this country. He suspected that “It could slow down the production line of certain aircraft, of certain procurements we have a direct interest in. These are the realities.”
The months-old claims of the defence industry were affirmed by a federal cabinet minister for the first time, as it was reiterated that stealth fighter program will probably face yet another major restructuring. The much-delayed and admittedly expensive F-35 program is seen as a priority target for spending cuts by the U.S. lawmakers. Whereas, implicatively the hold up in the production will result in a larger problem for Canada as the current CF-18s are deemed to retire from their useful life by 2020.
The purchase of 65 jets by Canada has already been held up long enough while a Public Works secretariat supervises a replacement plan of the existing CF-18 fighter fleet examining new alternatives and their potential cost. The agency, formed after last year’s biting report of auditor general, has released a final questionnaire for potential bidders over the weekend, requesting aircraft makers to submit cost information and other data which will help in the decision making process.
