Los Angeles Theatere Center presents the world premiere of Paula Caplan’s Shades, a compelling drama about what happens to family ties when oppositional politics threaten to tear them apart. Directed by Jon Lawrence Rivera, the audience follows three generations of veterans grappling with the effects of war in 1997. The family is haunted and strengthened by its years of military service, and over the course of this heart-wrenching and funny play, everyone’s views on blood, politics, and patriotism are tested. Recognizing life’s fleeting nature, this American family must discover the path to love, laughter, and even peace beneath the ruins of war. Shades received the Inaugural Pen & Brush Award for Playwriting.
