U.K. Prime minister, David Cameron has replaced the controversial Tory energy minister, John Hayes from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and appointed him as his senior parliamentary advisor in order to improve the distressed links between the prime minister and his Tory MPs.
Mr. Hayes, a strong opponent of wind farms, was dispatched to the energy department last year with a mission to rein in the green enthusiasms of his boss, Liberal Democrat energy secretary Ed Davey. However, after just six months of appointment Mr. Hayes has been replaced with the Tory business minister, Michael Fallon in a ministerial reshuffle. The Tory officials are still claiming that Mr. Hayes new position as a Minister without Portfolio (Minister of State) is not a demotion.
Mr. Fallon will also retain his role as business minister, Innovation and Skills. His brief will be to give “energy policy – a stronger business focus”.
This move of Mr. Cameron has come after his allies urged him from last few months to improve Downing Street’s relationship with agitated Tory MPs who have complaints of not being listened to in the Government. This is the reason Prime minister has appointed Mr. Hayes as an “ambassador” to communicate his views to his MPs and feed-back intelligence and concern to Downing Street.
