Even more cars in France recalled due to dangerous airbags

In France, another 800,000 cars with airbags from the Takata brand have to remain aside. The French Ministry of Transport has dedicated this to car manufacturers from different brands.

Several models from Citroën were previously recalled. Now it concerns all cars with Takata-airbags that have to go back to the garage. According to the newspaper The Parisian In order to, among other things, cars from BMW, Nissan, Audi, Volkswagen, Tesla and Seat.

According to responsible minister Philippe Tabarot, thorough investigation is needed, also referring to the death of a woman in Reims. At the beginning of this month she was killed by a defect in the Airbag of the Citroën C3 from 2014 in which she drove. The French Ministry of Transport then ordered all these vehicles from the road.

Stellantis autoconcerer, which includes Citroën, also called 33,000 cars back in the Netherlands this week. Whether this newest French decision also has consequences for the Netherlands is unknown.

Millions of cars recalled

Since 2014, millions of cars with Takata airbags have been recalled in different countries. Heat and moisture can affect the quality of the airbag.

If the airbag fills in a collision, it is possible that the equipment explodes and parts of it will be thrown into the car. Stellantis emphasizes that the airbag cannot explode spontaneously.
