Boboya James Edimond, the NPA programme coordinator on media project said that about 18 journalists of South Sudan will undergo computer training this month, among which four will be from Warrap state.
“Norwegian People’s Aid has a plan this month to train 18 journalists on how to use a computer in a place called Yei, Central Equatoria State,” he said.
He further explained that the 18 journalists will be selected from Warrap, Northern Barh El Ghazal, Western Barh El Ghazal and Upper Nile.
According to Edimond, the training is scheduled for six weeks and will give journalists comprehensive knowledge of Information Computer Technology (ICT).
The training will also offer other computer skills like how to upload and download of documents and photos, use of social media and internet services.
“This is very important for journalists because today, the world is moving away from a remote aspect to digital aspect where people access information on the internet,” Edimond noted.
He further stressed that the journalists after the training will come back and helps train the rest of their colleagues in the state.
Norwegian People’s Aid for the last 10 years has been working to strengthen freedom of expression and support free media in South Sudan.
NPA programme coordinator urged the journalists to join Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS), an independent media body they support.
He emphasized that for a journalist to qualify for the training, he/she must be a member of UJOSS.
Recently, the union established its sub-branches in Warrap and Northern Bahr El Ghazal states respectively.
