Egyptian Theatre (Hollywood, CA)
A psychologist travels to a space station that’s in disarray, staffed by a skeleton crew experiencing a mysterious mental and emotional crisis, in the landmark 1972 sci-fi film, Solaris. Directed by Russian auteur Andrei Tarkovsky, Solaris has been called one of the 100 best films of world cinema by Empire magazine and hailed as “a sci-fi masterpiece” by Salman Rushdie. Psychologically complex, thrilling and thoughtful, the film played in continuous, limited runs for some 15 years in Russia, giving what is probably Tarkovsky’s best-known work a certain cult status. Renowned American director Steven Soderbergh remade the movie in 2002 with George Clooney in the lead role.
