Officers working out of the Drugs and Vice Unit have charged two men in after the discovery of nearly $2.5 million in marihuana at an indoor marihuana grow operation in the Town of Georgina.

In July 2010, officers received information about a commercial property on Kennedy Road in relation to an indoor marihuana grow operation. On the surface, the Kennedy Road property appeared to be functioning as an unlicensed dog kennel. However, through investigation officers determined the property was also running a marihuana grow operation and obtained a warrant to search the property.

On Monday, August 9, 2010, Drugs and Vice Unit officers executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act warrant Kennedy Road location. A fully-functioning indoor marihuana grow operation was discovered within and more than 2,458 marihuana plants were seized at a street value of approx.

$2.5 million. Both accused were arrested at the property without incident.

CHARGED:

• Evan LEE, 46, of Georgina
• John WATERFIELD, 46, of Georgina

CHARGES:

• Production of a Controlled Substance
• Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking

Both accused have been released from custody and will appear next before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Tuesday, August 31, 2010.
