A Richmond Hill man has been charged with Second Degree Murder after an investigation into the death of his roommate which occurred in the Town of Richmond Hill.

On the morning of Saturday, August 24, 2013, York Regional Police attended an address on Centre Street in the Town of Richmond Hill after a resident of the house, 54-year-old Richard Skupien, was reportedly found without vital signs by his roommate. Emergency services workers revived the man and transported him to hospital where he later died. There were no obvious signs of foul play, but an autopsy was ordered and members of the #2 District Criminal Investigation Bureau investigated the circumstances of the death.

A post-mortem examination was conducted on August 27, 2013, and the manner of death was then determined to be homicide. The York Regional Police Homicide Unit took over the investigation.

On November 20, 2013, members of the Homicide Unit executed a warrant at a house in Richmond Hill and arrested Kenneth Johnson, 47. He was taken into custody without incident and is now charged with Second Degree Murder.

Mr. Johnson is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing today at the Ontario Court of Justice in the Town of Newmarket.

The investigation is ongoing.
