Following a lengthy police investigation into thefts within fitness locations, DRPS fraud investigators have arrested a 43-year-old male.

On Thursday September 2, 2010, DRPS fraud investigators from the Central West Division arrested the accused without incident as he exited a fitness facility located in Pickering. The accused had been entering various fitness facilities throughout Durham Region in 2009 and stealing credit cards or cash. In some cases, the victims had not known of their losses until phone calls were received from credit card companies or banking institutions. The stolen credit cards had been removed from locker rooms within the fitness locations and used in big box stores and upscale clothing retail locations. Store surveillance video assisted investigators in determining the accused to be the same suspect in each instance.

Anthony CLARKE, age 43, of York Region and Toronto is charged with Theft x15; Possession of Stolen Property x15 and Use Stolen Credit Card x15. The accused was held for a bail hearing.

The accused was not an employee of any fitness facility. The police are reminding the public to secure valuables when attending any facility.
