On Wednesday October 13, 2010 at approximately 9:56 p.m. officers from West Division were dispatched to Harwood Avenue South at Hunt Street in the Town of Ajax for a collision involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle. The pedestrian, a 54-year-old female from Ajax, was attempting to cross Harwood Avenue, when she was struck in the northbound curb lane by an older model BMW, being operated by a 21-year-old Ajax male.
At the time of the collision there was heavy precipitation in the vicinity. The injured pedestrian was transported by EMS to the Ajax Pickering Hospital where a short time later she succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the BMW was uninjured. At the request of the victim’s next of kin, the name of the female is being withheld.
The roadway was closed for several hours while the Durham Regional Police Collision Investigation Unit collected evidence in relation to the incident. Police do not believe alcohol or the use of any electronic devices were factors in this collision.
