On Day 3 of the third and final test match, the visiting team’s batsmen Leon Johnson and Marlon Samuels made a fair partnership to keep the West Indies in touch after AB de Villiers’ century gave South Africa the 98-run 1st innings lead at Newlands on Sunday.
De Villiers’ quick 148 from 194 balls and gave South Africa an edge over the tourists as they were bowled out for 421.
During West Indies second innings, Johnson and Samuels partnered an unbroken 61 for the third wicket to rescue their team from a shattering situation of 27-2 to 88 for 2 by day’s close, still trailing the hosts by four runs.
