The youth in Jonglei state had congregated for the first time to elect their leaders in a meeting organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Bor.

The ministry conducted a workshop on developing a youth strategy in Jonglei, last week.

“Under my leadership I will make sure that peace is achieved in our communities including areas of Jie and Kachipo,” the chairperson of Jonglei Youth Union, Ayaar Deng Monywach said.

He said that the youth form an integral part of the development process in any country.

Monywach said that since they secured independence, the next thing would be to fight poverty, unemployment and have enough food to feed the nation.

A member of the union, Mariar Garang requested the government to create jobs for the many educated youth in the country.

The elected youth officials include Secretary Samuel Ayuen, Finance Alan Korok and Council Chairperson John Chuol.

The group has vowed to help in mobilising the communities in Pibor County return the abducted children who are still being held by the local communities.
