The house speaker Mr. Simon Maguek Gai stated that, “this 10% salary deduction will be channelled to the SPLA soldiers who are fighting and defending the territory of the Republic of South Sudan at Heglig, Teswin, Jau, Naar among other areas of Unity State at the borderline.”

The agreement comes after the last Monday’s emergency meeting convened by the Governor of Unity State Hon. Taban Deng Gai who was expected to decree the formation of a mobilization committee.

Since the beginning of Heglig clashes, Unity State citizens at all levels participated in contributing food and non-food items that includes hundreds of bulls, money, sorghum that are transported to the forces at the border.

Last Thursday the South Sudan Trade Union announced that, their contribution was on the way from Juba which includes all forms of abundant foodstuffs. Other contributions from traders, women, and youth of Unity State are still flowing every day. This also includes blood donation to the hospital to be given to the wounded soldiers.

It is not yet clear how much will be collected as a result of 10% salary deduction.
