Savagely beaten Ottawa man dies in hospital

On May 17, 2011, at approximately 7:00 pm, the Ottawa Police Service and the Ottawa Paramedic Service responded to a disturbance in the 200 block of King Edward Ave. A male victim was located and then transported to hospital for treatment of a serious head injury. A suspect was taken into custody by responding patrol officers. The Major Crime Section took carriage of the investigation.

On May 19, Joseph COTTREAU, age 45, of Ottawa appeared in court with respect to a charge of Aggravated Assault. He has remained in custody since then.

During the evening hours of June 2, the victim passed away.

An autopsy is scheduled tomorrow and charges may be upgraded following this examination.
