In another disastrous accident, a moving passenger train has collided with a stationary train at Arakkonam station near Chennai, on Tuesday night.
The moving train strikes the rear side of the train standing on the platform. The train number 187, Arakkonam-Vellore Passenger, was waiting for the green signal near Stheri station, when the Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) was running between Chennai Beach and Vellore. The reports are saying that there could be heavy fatalities. The accident occurred near Chennai around 9:30p.m. when the passenger express hit another train standing at a signal point. Early, TV reports say that more than 70 injured in the accident. Officials have rushed towards the accident site.
Two teams from National Disaster Response Force have quickly moved towards the accident site and are helping people to come out of the coaches of the train. They are also being sent to the nearby hospital for treatment purposes. Till the time, no comments were made by the Railway officers from the Southern Railways. Right now the IG North Zone, Sylendra Babu confirmed death of seven people.
The train traffic of the Chennai-Katpatti section has got held up. Now the connection between these stations has been stopped.
