Set in the backdrop of mid 1940s as India gears up for its independence from the British Raj, Viceroy’s House traces a love story trapped amidst political upheave and a major partition of one nation. Huma Qureshi, who plays one of the leading characters in the film, will be seen romancing Manish Dayal of The Hundred-Foot Journey fame.
The trailer of Viceroy’s House that was released recently looks grand and epic. Huma, who looks convincing in her role as a Muslim school teacher in this Gurinder Chadha directorial, we hear had to undergo a lot of preparations. In order to keep up with the trend of the 40s, Huma who is seen sporting plaits and braids, had to spend about two to four hours for her make-up. Her look, it seems, has been inspired from yesteryear actress Madhubala.
On the other hand, her love story with Manish Dayal faces severe trials and tribulations. Huma aka Aalia, falls in love with Jeet, played by Manish. Amidst the turbulent situation as two communities (Hindus and Muslims) are at war owing to the partition, how the couple survives as the political situation in the country worsens, Viceroy’s House deals with the heart touching tale of one of the largest migrations of modern history.
Produced by Deepak Nayar, Gurindher Chadha and Paul Mayeda Berges, Viceroy’s House also stars Gillian Anderson, Hugh Bonneville, Om Puri, Neeraj Kabi among others. The film is slated to release on March 3.
