Montreal Police is occupied with a number of vandalism cases involving the workplace of four Quebec provincial cabinet ministers. Apparently it seems to be a part of the recent student protests against the tuition fee hikes.
Provincial government’s plan of increasing tuition fees has ignited serious protests in Montreal. However, police has not conclusively laid charges against any individual or group.
Early Monday morning around someone broke the window of a building where Quebec Justice Minister Jean-Marc Fournier’s office is located. According to the police, numerous bottles were thrown at the building; however, no fire or injuries were reported.
“Once police arrived on scene, they found bottles [containing] liquid,” said Montreal police Const. Yannick Ouimet
Ouimet said similar bottles were used to break the windows of a building where provincial minister responsible for seniors, Marguerite Blais works. Later, another building where Quebec Finance Minister Raymond Bachand comes to work was attacked.
Police also found red squares painted on a few vandalized buildings and sidewalks. This has turned out to be the symbol of the students protesting against tuition hikes.
Ouimet said: “It was the same modus operandi. Broken windows, bottles and graffiti!”
