The High Court of North Gauteng is going to announce the final verdict for the case of e-tolling on Friday.
The ongoing battle between the Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (Outa) and seven other respondents including Transport Department of South Africa, National Treasury, and the South Africa National Roads Agency (Sanral) is expected to come to an end today as the High Court will give its final verdict to the application filed by Outa. The application was submitted to the court by Outa with the intention to delay the implementation of the multi-million dollar project that the government of Gauteng has introduced, the e-tolling system. Following the series of events taking place in the court, Sanral had announced in the previous week that the implementation of the project will be postponed until the end of May so that all legal matters are resolved before the project comes in action.
The implementation of the project has been delayed for the 5th time since the last year, when it was initially going to be implemented. Therefore, this time, the union has decided to make sure that the application is settled before the project is taken ahead. Another important member protesting against the system, Cosatu, is still thinking over whether to join the application submitted in the court or not.
