On Tuesday, December 30th, 2014 shortly after 2pm the Kamloops RCMP began an investigation into what would turn out to be the first homicide of 2014.
As a result of the initial information received from a 911 call, police attended an address onCherry Avenue where a female victim was found deceased in an apartment belonging to theaccused.
The accused in this matter, now identified as 41 year old Christopher Frank Butler was arrested very early into the investigation, and on December 31st, 2014 murder charges were laid in Kamloops Provincial court. Butler is known to police.
The victim has been identified as 26 year old Deanne Genevieve Wheeler of Kamloops. The exact cause of death has yet to be determined and the investigation to gather further evidence is ongoing.
Christopher Butler will remain in custody pending his next court appearance, and poses no further imminent risk to the community.
As this matter remains under investigation and is before the courts, no further comment will be provided at this time.
