You may be familiar with salsa bands, but with their exhilarating five-horn harmonies, Conjunto Oye! really is a salsa orchestra. The group specializes in classic Nuyorican salsa, an off-shoot of Puerto Rican music started by immigrants in New York in the ’60s and made popular by songs like Tito Puente’s “Oye Como Va.” Leading this classic sound is vocalist Roosevelt Cordova, who’s performed with practically every major salsa band in Los Angeles, earning him the title “El Presidente of Salsa.” Come join “El Presidente” and his orchestra when they perform a concert at the intimate Grand Annex in San Pedro that’ll have you on your feet dancing the whole time.
