During the early morning hours of Sunday, November 19, 2006, Dylan McGillis, of Saskatchewan and his friends left a bar on the south side of Whyte Avenue and crossed the avenue near 106 Street. Once they crossed the street, McGillis and one friend came into contact with four males. Words were exchanged and the group quickly grew to over a dozen males. McGillis and his friends attempted to leave but were surrounded by more than a dozen males and pushed to the ground.
