The mayor of London, Ont., Joe Fontana, alleges to take strict actions against the hoo-ha that took place during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. A much rigid curfew and zoning rules along with tight police security is expected.

According to Fontana, government officials were let down and appalled by the uprising on Fleming Drive that led to almost $100,000 damage. Police reports at least 11 arrests, seven of which are identified as students of London’s Fanshawe College.

Mayor Fontana said: “The police presence, which was there on Saturday in pretty significant numbers, has to be embedded in that community.

“We will be talking with the owners of these homes that rent to these students that want to be irresponsible. And we will be looking at zoning and curfew laws. We will be looking at all of these things to ensure that this thing doesn’t happen again.”

London police says around 1,000 people went wild on the streets. All those taken into custody are to face several charges including unlawful assembly, assaulting police and resisting arrest. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported; however, London police Chief Brad Duncan said there were high chances of bloodshed.

“The severity of this mob mentality could have easily resulted in death. We can thank our lucky stars no one was killed. This is an injury for the whole city of London,” said Duncan.
