Three Canadians into the second round at Sony Ericsson Open
Frank Dancevic (Niagara Falls, ON) won his tenth match in a row on Thursday to reach the second round of the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, Florida, a combined ATP Masters 1000 and WTA Premier event.
The 27-year-old Canadian, who qualified for the main draw after winning the title last week at the Dallas Challenger, defeated Jérémy Chardy of France 7-5, 7-6(0) to set up a second round encounter with American Mardy Fish, ranked no. 8 on the world rankings. The match will be played on Saturday.
Dancevic joins his compatriots Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON) and Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, QC) in round two in Key Biscayne. On Friday, Raonic will take on Arnaud Clément of France while Wozniak goes up against world no. 28 Monica Niculescu of Romania.
Dancevic reached the second round of the Sony Ericsson Open in 2009 before losing to Novak Djokovic This marks the first time that Dancevic has reached the second round of an ATP World Tour event since reaching the quarter-finals at Johannesburg in January of 2011.
