After the message sent by the US Defence Secretary, Leon Panetta, in India as well as in Kabul on his recent visit, it is clear that the US wants Pakistan’s full support and agreement with its terms to end terrorism without considering the after effects that it could have upon the country or its relations with the other countries. The sacrifices which have been praised by international communities seemed to be ignored by the US Defence Secretary who can be quoted as to say that Pakistan was providing ‘safe havens’ to the terrorists.

“We feel that the Secretary of Defence is oversimplifying some of the very complex issues we are all dealing with in our efforts against extremism and terrorism,” Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“We strongly believe that such statements are misplaced and unhelpful in bringing about peace and stability in the region.”

The statements by the Pakistan’s Foreign ministry give an unambiguous reply to Panetta stating that it would leave no stone unturned to fight terrorism though it will have to be according to its own timeline and need to be ‘seen in context with overall peace and stability in Afghanistan and the border region.’

Though it can be concluded that neither of the countries want to spoil their relationship, the ever increasing demands of the US military and the unwillingness of the Pakistani military to accept, has brought out an unavoidable coldness in the relationship, intensifying troubles between Pakistan and US.
