"Reyner Banham Loves Los Angeles": Boyle Heights & the San Gabriel Valley

Join Esotouric for a fascinating five-hour exploration of the Southland communities east of the L.A. River — Boyle Heights and the San Gabriel Valley — which wouldn’t be complete without stops at a classic tacqueria and a Monterey Park tea shop for tastings. Inspired by the work of British architectural critic and author Reyner Banham, this informative bus and walking tour delves into the social history of each of these areas. Boyle Heights was once home to Russian and Jewish labor activists who passed on their political conscience to the young Chicanos of the ’60s, while the San Gabriel Valley moved from being an Italian-American enclave to the pan-Asian megalopolis it is today. Plus, you’ll get a peek at the East Los Angeles punk rock scene of the ’70s. The tour stops at Guisado’s in Boyle Heights for a mini taco sampler and at Wing Hop Fung superstore for a tea tasting, along with no-host wine selections.
