A report by Catholic-owned Radio Emmanuel, said the Payam Chief said the attack by pests will greatly affect harvests leading to hunger.
The pests have destroyed the vegetation and crops in the area after heavy rains pounded the area.
The Chief called upon the state government to team up with the State Ministry of Agriculture and the humanitarian NGOs to find some mechanism of keeping the insects at bay.
If this is not done, he said, the state should prepare a way of assisting the locals in case of poor harvests expected at the end of the year.
The insects have also invaded farms in Torit, Lopa/Lafon, Budiand Ikotos counties of Eastern Equatoria State.
