A Pulitzer Prize winner for 2000’s Dinner With Friends, Donald Margulies scored a nomination for the same prestigious award with this 1997 drama that follows the relationship between Lisa, a young writer, and Ruth, the critically-acclaimed author who takes her under her wing. The story takes place over the course of six years, focusing on the pair’s daily troubles and triumphs alike, as Ruth becomes more a maternal friend than a mentor to Lisa. But the white lies and minor betrayals lead to a grander treachery and bitter moral conflict, when Lisa uses Ruth’s life story as the basis of her own novel. Natalie Sutherland and April Lang star and Terri Hanauer directs for Langland Productions.
