An unordinary delay of a Charbonneau Commission testimony has delivered exciting rumors in consequences as people fear that there could be more shocking testimonies being heard as early as Tuesday afternoon.

An undisclosed witness was scheduled to appear before the Quebec’s anti-corruption inquiry yesterday, but he allegedly filed a motion at the last minute for the inquiry to hear his testimony behind closed doors. It was revealed that the witness has displayed concerns about the consequences he might face from both the City of Montreal and Quebec’s Liberal Party. The prosecutors for the commission addressed the witness’ appeal and decided that it would be better if the witness rather withdrew his motion. However, the city and they party have now become conscious and curious to see the motion.

The situation is becoming pretty serious as Justice France Charbonneau ordered a full review and brought the proceedings to a standstill until the motion is addressed at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The commission was busy this morning, hearing the testimony of a dominant contractor of the time, Piero Di Iorio, who appeared to complete his unfinished testimony.

Di Iorio illustrated on Monday afternoon that he was completely kept out of the loop about the bidding process for Montreal’s municipal projects and faced reprisals if he tried. He referred to himself as a proud Italian, and revealed that his father notified him in advance to never place bids against Sicilians, as they are the ones who decide the bid.
