Indian-rooted Filmmaker Sarovar Banka screens contemporary comedic drama A Decent Arrangement at 2013 ReelWorld Film Festival
Writer, director and producer Sarovar Banka’s cross-cultural romantic and comedic feature film A Decent Arrangement is an official selection of the 2013 ReelWorld Film Festival, taking place in Toronto from April 10-14, 2013. Having received an enthusiastic response internationally, in New York, Montreal, London and Mumbai, Sarovar is eager to share his film with Toronto audiences.
Founded in 2001, The ReelWorld Film Festival is an annual spring film festival and charitable foundation. With the vision of changing the face of Canadian cinema both on the screens and behind the scenes, ReelWorld promotes and encourages culturally and racially diverse artists transpiring within the film industry.
A Decent Arrangement follows the story of Ashok Khosla, an Indian-American copywriter who journeys to India seeking an arranged marriage. After he encounters an American woman traveling through India and is set up with an Indian woman who unexpectedly captivates him, Ashok must navigate the complexity of cultural traditions and leanings of his own heart. With subtle comedy and true-to-life drama, A Decent Arrangement shows the side of India not commonly seen by western audiences and delivers an affecting story that resonates with those in search of their place in a changing world.
The film stars debuting actor Adam Laupus as Ashok Khosla, his first major leading film role. Legendary Indian actress Shabana Azmi stars as Preeti Mehta, Ashok’s older cousin. Showcasing her comedic talent throughout the film, Shabana has won numerous international awards for her performance including every major Indian acting award.
A Decent Arrangement was shot in Chandigarh, India, the hometown of Sarovar’s grandparents. Inspired by memories of visits when he was young, the film is filled with sentiment and seeks to capture the essence of the place.
