Shawn McGuinnes of Toronto charged with arson

On Wednesday, July 21, 2010, one man and one young offender were arrested in an arson investigation.

It was reported that:

– on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, between 4 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., three separate fires occurred along Gerrard Street East between Pape Avenue and Coxwell Avenue.

It is alleged that:

– on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at 12:45 a.m., two males attempted to set fire to the front porch of a house in the Browning Avenue/Broadview Avenue area,

– the homeowner then called police and the two males were arrested by 54 Division officers in the area.

It is alleged that the two males were also responsible for three separate fires on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 along Gerrard Street East between Pape Avenue and Coxwell Avenue.

Shawn McGuinnes, 24, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) three counts of Arson,
2) two counts of Attempted Arson,
3) Mischief to Property Under.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with:

1) three counts of Arson,
2) two counts of Attempted Arson,
3) Mischief to Property Under.

The name of the accused cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Shawn McGuinness was scheduled to appear in court at College Park, on Thursday July 22, 2010, room 501, at 10 a.m.

The young offender was scheduled to appear in court at 311 Jarvis Street, on Thursday, July 22, 2010, room 1, at 11 a.m.
