EPS Traffic Section investigators say it appears that the Honda Civic was travelling eastbound on the Yellowhead Trail and was exiting right onto the 215 Street off ramp when the vehicle suddenly veered back onto the Yellowhead Trail. The Honda Civic struck plastic highway makers and a roadway sign before swerving across the Yellowhead Trail and was t-boned by the Chevrolet Silverado travelling east. Both vehicles came to rest in the centre median. Both vehicles appeared to be travelling at the posted speed limit prior to the collision.
The occupants of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts, however, due to the speed and direct impact of the collision, the mother and daughter succumbed to their injuries and died at the scene. The next of kin have been notified of their deaths. The driver and passenger of the Chevrolet Silverado were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later released.
The EPS Traffic Section continues to investigate, however, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.
