When Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan had to get into an action role for Ghajini and Agneepath respectively, they worked out before every scene in order to get the right body tone and intensity in place. Sidharth Malhotra, who also boasts of one of the best bodies in the business, did the same while preparing for Ek Villain.
The only difference is that it wasn't always for an action sequence, as an intense work out actually enabled him to unleash his mental anguish.
"While there has been a mystery element around whether it is Sidharth or Riteish who is the villain in Ek Villain, there is definitely an emotional roller-coaster ride that both the characters are a part of. Sidharth, in any case, has a troubled personality in the film and he has brought it to full use here through his body language. Since director Mohit Suri wanted him to internalize the energy before getting ready to face the camera, Sidharth went through an entire method acting approach and physically warmed himself up before venting out his anger through a fierce body language," informs our source.
There wasn't really a requirement of a full time trainer on the sets as Sidharth has been following a fitness regime for years and didn't really need a helping hand.
"I believe it works when you are doing high intensity films," says Sidharth. He continues, "I would warm up my body, do a few pushups and then give a shot. It helped me a lot. Thankfully, Mohit gave me all the time before getting ready for a shot. He understood that this part was really tough for me to perform and a lot of homework was required mentally as well."
This means that even though there were no six packs being displayed, a la Aamir or Hrithik, Sidharth benefitted from a charged up body language as well as simmering energy to get some of the most high intensity shots being delivered in one take.
Says Sidharth, "Well, Mohit asked me to follow an approach that worked for me instead of worrying about the fact that the shot was ready to be taken. You need such support, especially when you are playing a role like this for the first time ever."
This isn't all as Mohit Suri formulated another technique, that of playing music on the sets as per the mood of the scene, so as to get his actors in the right frame of mind.
"Yes, that helped us come on our own before giving the shot," says Sidharth, "Moreover, Mohit also wanted me to be on my own; he just wanted to let me be myself. Hats off to him for making the whole environment so friendly. He did his bit and it was on us actors to reciprocate. I hope the results will show on screen."
If early reports are any indication, they indeed are!
