Today, seven Hamilton Police Action officers were arrested as a result of an internal investigation related to the issuance of tickets and five were charged.
In September 2014, tickets were discovered in a Service shredder box and an internal investigation was immediately launched. The nine-month investigation has been concluded and it is alleged there were discrepancies involving 32 tickets.
Investigators have met with and interviewed some of the citizens named on the tickets. The Service will take every step possible to ensure that people named on the tickets are not negatively impacted.
The seven officers are members of the Service’s ACTION Team One. They were placed on administrative duties during this investigation. The officers have now all been suspended, with pay, as required in law. The five officers charged will appear in Court on July 13, 2015. Police Services Act charges are pending. This matter is now before the courts and the Hamilton Police Service will make no further comment pertaining to this investigation.
