Azusa Pacific University Warehouse Theater (Azusa, CA)
Henrik Ibsen’s acclaimed 19th-century play about marriage, individuality and devotion comes to Azusa Pacific University’s Warehouse Theater. Usually referred to as A Doll’s House, this translation of the play, by Rolf Fjelde, slightly changes the title and is now set in the 1960s. In A Doll House, beleaguered housewife Nora’s seemingly idyllic domestic existence becomes a fraught battleground between suffocating societal norms and her growing hunger for self-determination. Ibsen’s classic play is considered ahead of its time for its portrayal of a woman’s search for self-worth within the confines of an unhappy marriage.
