OMNI Television presents the world broadcast premiere of Belly Dance Man: From Canada to Cairo to English language audiences.

Viraj Wanigasekera was born to Sri Lankan parents, raised on the rough and tumble Canadian Prairies and grew up as a track athlete, with a bright future in biochemistry. With many opportunities in his grasp, Viraj took the path less traveled and chose to shimmy his hips to the beat of his own drum in an attempt to become the world’s best belly dancer. Viraj has been questioned by many for his choice to pursue an art that is commonly viewed as a woman’s dance. Belly Dance Man: From Canada to Cairo chronicles Viraj’s journey to prove that not only can men belly dance, they can be accepted by the international belly dance community and ultimately the world.

Only one out of a handful of professional male Oriental dancers in North America, Viraj performs this ancient Middle Eastern tradition of Belly Dance everywhere from local restaurants to international festivals. When he is not performing, Viraj is instructing hoards of eager students and fans. In this uniquely funny and entertaining documentary, viewers get a chance to watch Viraj move audiences and perform all over the world, from Canada, to America and Egypt.
