The 9/11 memorial ceremony will start at World Trade Centre site at 8.30 with the magnificent procession of pipers and drummers from the NYPD, FDNY and the Port Authority Police Department. Six moments of silence will take place during the memorial. The ceremony will finish at 1.00pm.

The first will take place right after the Nation Anthem, that will be sung by the Brooklyn Chorus at 8.46 p.m. This was the time when the first plane crashed at the North Tower. Following that a moment of silence will take place for the time when the second plane hit the South Tower, the times that both towers fell and the times that a plane struck the Pentagon and when United Flight 93 crashed in Shanksville, Pa.

President Barack Obama will address the gathering with the reading of the names of those died in the attack and the reading of the service. The list will also include 2,983 who died on 9/11 across the country as well as in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

Family members of the deceased have started arriving wearing blue ribbons and T-Shirts imprinted with the names of their deceased loved ones.

Former President George W.Bush will also be present in the ceremony along with other dignitaries.
