Leaked memo of Pranab Mukherjee indicates that P Chidambaram did not do enough to prevent the 2G scam when, in 2008, he was Finance Minister. But the Law Minister Salman Khurshid said that P Chidambaram only took decision, “You cannot drag P Chidambaram’s name into the case of criminally based on his policy decision. The government’s policies are often reviewed,” he said.
The sources reported that 2G trouble has appeared unexpectedly for the UPA once again. This time it is because of a note sent by Pranab Mukherjee to the PMO inquiring Chidambaram’s role in 2G spectrum pricing.
Since the beginning of the issue, this has been considered as the first proper acknowledgement by the government of the 2G blunder.
Deputy Director in the Finance Ministry, Dr PGS Rao sent an office memorandum to Vini Mahajan, Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, on March 25, 2011. This official memorandum was meant for the allocation and pricing of 2G spectrum. Pranab Mukherjee, Finance Minister, approved the note after individually examining the 11-page paper.
Raja was jailed in February just a month after the 2G controversy broke. The Finance Ministry note was sent many months after the 2G controversy broke. Now Raja has been accessed by Vivek Garg, RTI activist.
The prime indication of the note is the involvement of Home Minister P Chidambaram in the 2G spectrum allocation as Chidambaram was then Finance Minister.
Including several former corporate leaders, telecom secretary Sidharth A Behura and DMK MP Kanimozhi, A Raja are already in jail for their alleged connection in the 2G spectrum scam.
