In India’s Kerala state, the final vault at a temple should not be opened, the Supreme Court ordered. The court declared that the vault will remain shut until treasure already recovered is fully documented.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court ordered that the vault ‘B’ of the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple will be opened only after considerable work concerning documentation and preservation of certain assets uncovered from other vaults of the shrine is finished.
The justice, R V Raveendran headed a bench and cancelled the appeal of a specialist committee to hand over the security of the temple to Central paramilitary forces. The court also directed the state government to supply “foolproof cover” to the temple to protect its assets which are estimated to be over Rs 1.50 lakh crore, the sources reported.
The court also assured that the administration of the temple would provide an amount of Rs 25 lakh per year. This amount would be used to preserve the assets and for security of the temple. The rest of the amount needed would be generated by the state government.
For preservation of the assets no tender should be floated for private companies, the court ordered. The court added that it had to be done by Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation Limited.
After three months, this case would be considered in the court.
