Last year, we had reported that Amole Gupte is all set to make a biopic on Saina Nehwal. In fact, now talking about the research he had to undergo to get the film started, the filmmaker revealed that he spent about a year and a half researching on the badminton champ.
From meeting her close associates to her family to her friends, reportedly Amole Gupte has collected two terabyte worth of information on her. He also revealed that he has seen her play at NSCI (National Sports Club of India) and even gathered videos of her to understand her personality. After so much research, Amole was not only left impressed with her ‘killer instinct’ but he even described her as the ‘tigress beti’ of India.
On the other hand, Amole Gupte was also all praise for Saina’s family for their warm welcome. Gupte was more than happy with their warm hospitality and found it extremely homely. When he visited them, he spoke about his experience and how he was served with parathas which were Saina’s favourite and it will now apparently also find its way to the film.
As far as the film is concerned, Amole insisted that it will start from the time Saina was born. Saina was born in Haryana and raised in Hyderabad. He also mentioned about meeting everyone who are close to her that includes her parents, Harvir and Usha Singh, her mentor Pullela Gopichand and some of her other coaches too. The film will also trace her journey through varied championships including the Olympics, BWF World and Junior Championships.
Talking about the casting, Amole Gupte is yet to finalize a strong actress who can pull off this ‘challenging’ role with élan. He needs someone who can not only look the role but also learn the sport well to look convincing. He will also have a consultant who is his friend and professional badminton player Sudhanshu Hukku.
