Convicted Prime Minister of Pakistan Yousaf Raza Gillani addressed the parliament on Friday and refused to resign from his position while giving an aggressive and emotional speech daring the opposition to come face him.

He took on the name of the leader of opposition Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif and said that it was only Pakistan People’s Party and his own efforts that the parliament today has progressed so much. If it was left to leaders like him, there would be no friendly opposition in the parliament and parliament wouldn’t ever be able to rise to solve concrete issues like it did in his government. He said that Main Nazaw Sharif is a slave to his ego and he cannot look beyond that. He has never spoken to anyone keeping aside his ego and therefore has not been able to communicate well in the parliament. He said he will not resign and dared Nawaz Sharif to make him resign and try to handle the situation of the parliament. He also said that it was only his government which has treated everyone equally, the small and the big political parties.

He said, “There is a custom that nobody but the Speaker can disqualify me. It cannot happen; there is no law or anything in the Constitution. Today if you [the Speaker] de-notify me, I will leave right away. That is up to the custodian of the House.”
