Storm signals in 14 areas of Northern Luzon

The tropical storm “Dindo” has continued to move towards 14 provinces of Nothern Luzon said by the Weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) in its tropical cyclone warning on Thursday. The public storm warning signal number 2 also remained at Cagayan where it was depicted that winds of 61-100 km per hour (kph) were expected in these areas within the next 24 hours, including Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands, Isabela, Batanes Group of Islands, Isabela, Batanes Group of Islands, Apayao, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, Abra and Mt. Province.

Gener Quitlong, the PAGASA predictor predominantly alarmed inhabitants of strong winds and flooding in Cagayan province, where it was expected that the eye of the storm would be hitting between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. today. The storm’s eye was also expected to hit Calayan Group of Islands between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

By Friday morning, Dindo was expected to be 190 kms north northwest of Aparri, Cagayan. Rains were still expected over the rest of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao as the storm enhances the southwest monsoon (habagat). Projected rainfall amount was 10 to 25 millimeters per hour, considered as heavy to intense, within the 400 kilometer diameter of the storm.

The western region of the country was warned for the landslides and floods. PAGASA warned, “Residents living in low-lying and mountainous areas under signals No. 1 and No.2 are alerted against possible flash floods and landslides.” The weather bureau also said the seaboards of central Luzon would experience scattered rains that might produce waves 3.4 to 5.0 meters high.
