Prime Minister Stephen Harper finally selects veteran media trouble-shooter Dimitri Soudas as his new spin doctor. He will need all of skills to deflect the heat of the government this week as Liberals swarm around the Helena Guergis and Rahim Jaffer scandal.

Soudas, who was Harper’s press secretary and deputy communications director, replaces John Williamson.

Soudas has been at Harper’s side since he became leader of the Canadian Alliance and is one the prime minister’s most trusted media advisers.

"I am honoured that the prime minister has asked me to take on this added responsibility," Soudas told media reps.

He is known for his strong work ethic, energetic defence of  Tory policies and rapid-fire response to controversies that periodically engulf the government.

The affable but intensely partisan Soudas is the fifth communications director since Harper won power in 2006.

Dimitri Soudas only function in the government is to spin the truth in a manner that Canadian public can easily swallow.
