A film that has created storms worldwide even before the shoot began, a film that has been the talk of the town amidst all the controversies that surrounded it, UTV’s ‘Heroine’ is an ambitious pet project spear headed by realistic B-town film maker Madhur Bhandarkar. Known to make films that delve in to the personal detailing of a ceratin field, be it the territory of the powerful Media, the corporate sphere or the glitzy fashion arena, Bhandarkar’s films have created a niche for themselves and are in a league of their own.

Heroine, as the name suggest envisages the journey and the voyage of an actress through the different phases of her stardom where she gets to breathe life into different characters each day, thus getting to live a new life each day.  Grabbing eyeballs and most importantly headlines from the day the idea was conceived, Heroine is now in full swing with all the Media and audience glare just blending perfectly for the film. Initially Madhur had visualized the film with Kareena in mind but things did not quite work well, plus increasing date problems made him shift his attention to the demi Indian goddess Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. But then as Ash’s pregnancy news became a rage over the net and people started anticipating the arrival of the baby, the producers and the director were left fuming at the callousness caused. Another great piece of gossip that was scooped eventually occupied tabloid spaces worldwide. While news broke out about Bhandarkar shelving his most ambitious magnum opus, finally Kareena was brought back in and shoot for the film began in full swing. Trailer was released along with Kya Super Kool Hai hum and was an instant rage among the masses. Crossing almost 1 million views in just a span of three days, Heroine again became the talk of the town for three reasons: Kareena’s breathtaking screen presence making it a delight for her fans, the bombastic dialogues and most importantly the catchy Halkat Jawaani. But what brought in more problems was a certain dialogue that was derogatory to the people abiding in Dubai.

The film’s dialogues are outrageously dynamic. From the three qualities of a heroine to the ‘Confidence ke saath bolo na, toh film industry jhooth ko bhi saach man lete hai’, this film will be high on ardor and fierce exertion.

Too much news for a film, really! Yes, coming to the music, the film’s music was released globally on the 17^th of August amidst a lot of star fair. And with a creative concoction of as many as three lyricists and six singers for an album that comprised just five numbers, ‘Heroine’ certainly have a little spunk and a little spoof in its music department. With Sunidhi Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan being the stalwarts of the game, the album also has lesser known but talented names like Aditi Singh Sharma, Shraddha Pandit and Benny Dayal to credit!

With a variety of songs on offer, its time to finally go for an album Post mortem! Here’s the medical report:

Halkat Jawaani:

This number brings back the queen of item songs back to where she belonged: The item arena! With a loosely bound ‘Laila’ that did almost nothing to her career graph, the girl that voiced the stunningly sexy Sheila Ki Jawaani two years back is back and how! Halkat Jawaani is vivaciously peppy and is the most zestful and zealous track from the album. The effervescent track has oodles of spunk and oomph and the beats are deliciously orgasmic! The creatively crafted number stands out as the main sutradhar of the entire Heroine album and rightly so! The charismatic cum charming voice of Sunidhi coupled with the natkhat tunes lends the track a naughty tinge. Much to an item number’s benefits, the naughtier the song, the better way it is received. And as for Halkat, the lyrics are a high point. While the lurics, music and the visuals fuse together to create a seemingly hot item song, Halkat Jawaani can give tough competition to the Sheilas, Munnis and especially the Chikni Chameli that has been the ruler of the province since last year end! Plus, Kareena’s moves can set the entire floor on fire. If you love dancing, this one’s surely up for grabs. And even if you aren’t much into dancing and partying, this upbeat track can set all things straight for you, once and for all! Enjoy the song! After all, “Night ki naughty kahaani, yeh halkaat jaawani”!!!

Khwahishen:

Khwahishein is slow in tempo and has a melodious tune to it. The song beautifully captures the protagonist’s innate urge to get lost in the crowd, the ‘uljhi hui si kashmakaash’ that gnaws her from within. The song that works well in patches, relatively captures the life of an actress post her period of glory and fame. The relentless story of how one’s desires can eventually take a venomous turn to one’s stability has been depicted with conviction. Niranjan Iyengar’s words used amalgamate with the theme oh so perfectly and add a different flavour to the entire song. Lines like ‘ khwahishon ka chehra yuh dhundla sa lagta hai’ and ‘zindagi ko dheere dheere dasti hai khwahishein’ is symbolic to the different consequences of one’s so called ‘galat’ temptations and lends strength and vigour to the track. The intermittent rock zatangs and drum beats add the much needed toxicity to the number. Shreya Ghoshal returns as the supreme queen of slow paced melodies with a gem like ‘Khwahishein’. After a chulbuli Chikni Chameli and the husky Mashallah, this four minute number form the ‘Heroine’ album comes as a welcome change.

 Main Heroine Hoon:

The gutsy start to this boisterous number from the album harks back to the Era of Helens and the Zeenat Amans. The entire track is powerful and vulnerable, much due to the apt lyrics by Niranjan Iyengar yet again. The song, overall, encapsulates the story of an actress who bedecks new lives everyday and concocts it with mesmerizing lyrics. With a dash of Disco touch, the song captivates attention amidst the loud shrieks of ‘Main Heroine hoon’ with effective words penned by the lyricist. Aditi Singh Sharma’s dominating and titillating voice adds buoyancy to the track and its sanguine beats catch attention instantly. From ‘link ups’ to ‘break ups’ and ‘posters’ to ‘glamour’, it brings out the nitty-gritties of the world of Cine blitz and stardust! Lines like ‘girgit se make up mein’, ‘bistar ki silvat mein’ and ‘main khiladi ya khilona’ are convincing enough to allure the audience into the narration of the untold story behind the glitzy world of films. For a realistic film, this song is certainly a high as it is juicy one moment, scandalous the other and provides an insight into the ‘teekhi’ and ‘namkeen’ ambience that the actresses imbibe once they become a part of this industry.

Saiyaan:

Coupled with monotone sad lyrics from the highly talented Amitabh Bhattacharya and the powerhouse of talent Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s voice, Saiyaan from the album is a classic enchanting Sufi ballad. This song has a little of the Noor-e-Khuda feel. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s creative genius needs no introductions but the twists in the voice that Saiyaan renders is breath taking. The myriad emotions of the protagonist ahs been expressed with eased conviction , thanks to the melancholy and the variety that provides the necessary punch to a tune, allegorical of the helplessness and the heart break of a lovelorn superstar. Multiplicity of difficult notes and high tunes tend to be shouldered with consummate ease by the Sufi expert. A soulful hymn that commandeers as a brave testament to the inner pangs and woos of the indomitable human spirit leaves an indelible impact on the human soul. Though it falls highly short of being a masterpiece, the soft saga of pain and aghast definitely strikes the right chord. With the video having a silhouetted Kareena dancing to the tunes have already caught fire, the shadowy appearance of the protagonist opportunely invocate the expressions of the agony and affliction on the leading lady. Lines like ‘dil sheeshe ka toota aashiyaan re’ and ‘ab kis disha jaoon, kit mai basera paaun, tu jo thaame sambhal jaoon’ orchestrates the enunciation with enough dynamism and fortitude.

Tujhpe Fida:

Seemingly high on bass, this Benny Dayal rendition is rock and roll and can make you go gaga over it! A lovely romantic number, coupled with tangy party beats , this song stays along with Halkat after the album reaches its completion. Ebullient voices, snappy echoes and zealous reverberations sandwiching this brilliantly polished club number, Tujhpe Fida comes out as a surprise package. Benny Dayal is effortless and steals the show with this 4 minuter. Shraddha Pandit’s voice has got the much needed spark; her few lines is a colloquy of her voice tenacity and versatility. With a nice, soothing feel-good kind of an innervation, Tujhpe Fida stands out in an album interpolated by heavy duty names and high-fi melody creators. Neelesh Mishra’s words add a mystic aura to the number. Be it ‘Ho hum nazar se zakhmi hoke tilmilate reh gaye, Aur tu ye ghaav karke muskuraate reh gaye’ or ‘Saanjh subah dekhe tera aana jaana, Dil ki khole khidkiyaan’, Mishra’s words add stability and obduracy to this peppy and groovy upbeat number.

Final Verdict: Rediscover the dungeons of the glitzy world of super stardom and cine blitz with a deliciously scripted film this September 21st! am booking first day first show! When its Madhur Bhandarkar, he never compromises on any little detailing, hence such a stellar music for his magnum opus has been constructed and envisaged. With some tracks really a tad little stretched and half baked, you might feel the pressure on your ear drums. But Halkat Jawaani steals the show and scorches its way to the throne of the item songs. Tujhpe Fida and Khwahishein also lend ample support to Halkat Jawaani to make the album of the much anticipated scandalous tale a recommended one!
