South Africa will play their final ODI match against England as the teams meet at Trent Bridge in Nottingham to decide the winner of the series. England is already dominating the series with 2-1 lead. South Africa have suffered quite a bit due to their inconsistent performance by the middle order and will be hoping the team will perform better this time to save the loss.
With 2-1 lead in the ODI series, the hosts have kept a firm hold of the ODI number one ranking, at least until they face the Indians early next year. They have given impressive performances in the last two games. They have choked the South African batsman into making mistakes and newbies Tredwell and Dernbach have particularly impressed.
If England choose to stick to the previous tactics they have employed in the last two games and hold onto some catches it looks like the Proteas will have a steep hill to climb. The English squad may include: AN Cook*, JM Anderson, JM Bairstow, IR Bell, RS Bopara, TT Bresnan, JC Buttler, JW Dernbach, ST Finn, C Kieswetter†, EJG Morgan, SR Patel, JC Tredwell, IJL Trott, CR Woakes.
The South Africa’s batting lack consistency. The team has been heavily dependent on Hashim Amla but it needs a support from the rest of the team as well. Barring Amla, none of the batsmen have been able to cross the 100 run mark in the matches played so far. South Africa will have to pull up their socks and deliver a much improved batting performance if they are to tie the series.
On the bowling front, South Africa do not have any major concerns but will hope to see the best from main bowlers in this final ODI. The South African probable squad will include: AB de Villiers*†, HM Amla, JP Duminy, F du Plessis, D Elgar, Imran Tahir, R McLaren, JA Morkel, M Morkel, JL Ontong, WD Parnell, RJ Peterson, GC Smith, DW Steyn, LL Tsotsobe.
