Police discovered a 50-year-old’s body from a bungalow in Sunshine West in Melbourne’s western suburbs on Tuesday. A suspect has been detained for allegedly killing the woman during a violent battle. Police believes it was domestic dispute gone out of hands while neighbors claim the man is suffering through mental illness.

Reportedly, police were first called to Felstead Ave in Sunshine West about 7.25am; however, the officials had to rush to a nearby Roberts St where a 23-year-old man had entered a property. Later around 10 am, the Critical Incident Response Team arrived at the scene and took the suspect into custody. Athiel Manel’s body was dumped at the rear of the property.

Superintendent Glenn Weir said officers had first been called to a neighborhood dispute. Three people had received injuries as a result of that dispute and have been treated for relatively minor injuries.

“Police attempted to speak with the male offender and were confronted by him at his house. He was armed and threatened police. Police withdrew and put a cordon in place. The critical incident response team responded an engaged the male in negotiations, which turned violent. Police then deployed less-than-lethal tactical options which resulted in the arrest of the male.

“A subsequent search of his premises revealed the deceased woman at the rear of the premises. The male was conveyed to hospital and checked and is now being interviewed by police. Full crime scene investigation has been undertaken and the homicide squad is in attendance and we’re working our way through the intricacies of the investigation,” Supt Weir said.
